For those of you who have not yet been to the reincarnation of the Avenue Pub, I hope that you are not getting the wrong idea from this thread.

They are doing an unbelievable job over at the Avenue. They have transformed this "dump" into the best draft beer bar in the City . . . PERIOD . . . and they are still constantly striving to make this place better.

For example, tonight I attended the tapping of a cask of dry hopped Nola Blond ale.

Cask conditioned beer is farely normal in other parts of the country . . . but nobody in the city is doing anything close to this.

Now Polly already has casks of beer from Lazy Magnolia and Rogue (WAKE UP, ABITA!) in the works . . . she even is trying to get casks of unpasteurized German beer for Oktoberfest (which I would not be surprised to exceed $8 per pint).

. . . and all you guys are seemingly complaining that your Miller High Life costs an extra buck.

It costs what it costs . . . deal with it.

Some of the Belgians that I sell in my store would cost more than $8/pint if on tap . . . and would be well worth it.

So . . . anyway . . . you need to get away from your computers . . .and off your butts . . . and down to the Avenue and formulate your own opinion.

You might like it . . . you might not.

Dan, Could you try just a little harder to be a condescending jerk with the wording of this post? I mean seriously, this isn't nola.com where the people might fit the bill of your average miller/bud/coors drinker.
Btw, attitude aside, thanks for all you do with helping to promote good beer in the city.

I don't mind being carded... as long as the person doing it, has a smile on their face. I'm obviously old enough, but the girl at night there? asks me as if she's NOPD and I just committed a crime. She has also seen my ID, and knows I have it, YET can't seem to remember that she's seen it 100 times, so I don't bother to go drink on little miss sunshines shift.

as far as price? not a beer drinker, and it was a bit insulting to read an article about how they aren't a place to be seen, or a pick up joint, stop in and talk BEER? whatever...

I'm all for upgrading, and have noticed that those folks that used to go there, have moved someplace else... Hey, there's all kinds of bars to drink in, exploring is part of new orleans... I still drink there occasionally, and the price changes haven't affected me, as I don't drink beer. J'anita's has added quality food to the pub environment, and am very happy to see them thriving. they have filled a hole that needed to be filled. The bar manager still bartends weekends, she's the one day bartender who brings a smile to the table, and knows how to card appropriately. She also doesn't waver over my conversations in the bar, interjecting her opinion when its not needed.

stick to the guys at night, they're all stellar, and stick to the weekend bar manager. These folks have a professional quality about them, and truly make this bar what it once was, and can become.

It's a bar. It's the law. It's a little inconvenience for you, but it's their livelihood. They should card everyone, every time. If you don't like their policy, take your business to another establishment that doesn't mind risking their liquor license, so as not offend or inconvenience your delicate sensibilities. Otherwise deal with it. Good grief, is reaching into your wallet to show someone your ID really that difficult?

That's sort of like expecting the teller at the bank to cash your check without asking for ID. And a little egotistical that, of all the people she waits on, your face stands out in her mind. When I get a really grumpy bartender or waiter, I try to think of all the crap they have to put up with and am thankful for my nice desk job and salary.

Interesting thought Laura, I do exactly the same thing!
The $#!+ bartenders have to put up with is amazing.

I'm not a drinker or a smoker and have to admit it took me a while
to go to The Avenue Pub to have some Janita's.
Having hung there a little in the early 80's, it just wasn't going to be
where I am in my element these days.

Well we went & had absolutely no problem with the bartender or the place!
We wondered what took us so long! In fact, since we didn't have lunch or dinner today and now we're starving, we might just stop in right now for a bite.

I hope they make those duck sandwiches after 9pm.

I'm the person who does the chalkboards at the avenue. I thought I would clear up any questions regarding the pricing. There are SO many bottled beers, and they change so frequently, we chose to put up a list of "suggested" beers, with no prices, simply because there's a menu at the tables with pricing.

With so many beers, and various sizes, it gets to be a bit much to list ALL of the beers, and constantly changing it out on a weekly basis. so we opted for a condensed version, according to styles of beers... so you'll see a few listed twice... and not ALL beers on are the board.

cost wise, I don't think the prices are out of line, especially with the craft beers. Its not unusual to pay more for top shelf liquor, so its not unusual to pay for "top shelf" beers. The variety factor is really the fun part.
